Onur Air

With the Aegean Flights routes being flown by a young fleet of efficient modern Airbus aircraft, you can compare the Onur flying experience with any of the popular UK low-cost airlines, although we’d hasten to add that Onur aircraft are not painted in bright orange.

Most flights will have an in-flight trolley providing snacks and a bar service (dependent on availability). As with most budget airlines please note that this is not a free service and we’ve found most people choose to take a sandwich with them, especially when travelling with children. Onur Air does not offer in-flight entertainment and is a non-smoking airline.

The words “East meets West” and “where Orient meets Occident” are often used in relation to Turkey, but the country is not a backwater, it is rapidly modernising and knocking on Europe’s door. Although prices are rising and cheap flights to Turkey can be harder to come by, hotels and taxis are a steal compared to other cities.

While you’re there, take advantage of the exchange rate (one Turkish New Lira converts to about £0.43) and consider buying carpets, leather and jewellery. Don’t think drinking apple tea will help you blend in - no self-respecting Turk would touch it - but Turkish delight and Baklava (preferably the Gulluoglu brand) are universal favourites.

Places not to miss include Istanbul, a world capital for thousands of years and three empires; Bodrum, the package holiday favourite; Ephesus, an ancient holy city from the Roman era, close to Izmir; Cappadocia, a stunning moonscape of “fairy chimneys” that once were home to Hittites, Romans and Christians; and Nemrut in eastern Turkey, colossal statues and two temples dominate an artificial mountaintop.

Baggage Allowance

This is 20 kg (44 lb) for each person. Baggage weighing more than the baggage allowance will be subject to a charge payable at check-in. Single items of luggage weighing over 32 kg will not be accepted by the airline for health and safety reasons. A passenger can take on the aircraft one small piece of hand luggage weighing less than 5 kg (11 lb), with a maximum size of 45 cm x 35 cm x 20 cm. Infants under the age of 2 on the date of their return flight have no baggage allowance. Carriage of all excess luggage and sports equipment is subject to the aircraft capacity on the day of departure.

On Arrival In Turkey

Visa - DONT FORGET!
Before you go through passport control you need to pay the local charge for your visa - every time there’s an arrival from the UK we see people queue for passport control only to find they have forgotten to get their visa, which means doubling up on your queing - so please get your visa first! The Turkish Government levies a £10 per person charge (incl. Infants) for a visa to all British nationals arriving in Turkey. The amount is payable in sterling cash at a special desk which is clearly marked. Please try to have the correct money available. Scottish notes are not accepted.

Lost Baggage
Regrettably, from time to time, bags can go astray. If any item of baggage does not appear send one member of your party through customs to inform the representative and make sure that your coach does not go without you, and to ask for assistance if you need it. The loss of a bag needs to be reported to ‘Celebi’ who have an office inside the baggage hall, and everyone there speaks good English. They will help you complete a PIR form (Property Irregularity Form) and they will cross check the baggage receipts against the bags that you have collected, they will also need to see your passport. Keep a copy of the completed PIR form - you will need to exchange it for your luggage when it arrives. Celebi will deliver the luggage to you when it has been traced.

Transfer

If you have booked one of our optional transfers, after collecting your baggage and leaving the terminal you will directed to a coach which will take you to your resort. We do try to accompany every coach, but occasionally this is not possible. Our coaches all have a non smoking policy. If you have booked a private transfer in the UK see the Holidays 4U representative in the arrivals area and they will direct you to your driver.
